Pontins apology to travellers over discrimination

Pontins, a holiday park company, has publicly apologized to the Irish Traveller community for its past discriminatory practices, which included cancelling bookings from people with Irish accents or surnames. This apology is part of a one-year action plan developed with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to address discrimination. The EHRC's investigation found that Pontins had engaged in unlawful discrimination practices, including maintaining a 'banned list' of Irish surnames deemed undesirable and imposing unfair booking conditions. The new plan aims to eliminate these practices, ensuring compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and fostering an inclusive environment for all guests.
