The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is suing Coles and Woolworths, Australia's largest supermarket chains, for allegedly misleading consumers about price reductions on hundreds of products. The ACCC claims that both companies temporarily raised prices before reducing them, misleading shoppers about the actual discounts. This investigation follows consumer complaints and monitoring by the ACCC, with findings indicating that Woolworths misled customers on 266 products and Coles on 245 products. The ACCC is seeking significant penalties and an order for the companies to contribute to charities aiding Australians in need, amid ongoing concerns about cost of living pressures affecting consumers.
