Aldi price match at Tesco - dozens of goods not like-for-like

A recent analysis by BBC Panorama found that many Tesco products that are price-matched to Aldi are not directly comparable. Specifically, 38 out of 122 products had significantly lower amounts of the main ingredients compared to their Aldi counterparts. For example, Tesco's chicken nuggets contained only 39% chicken, compared to 60% in Aldi's. Tesco has stated that it continually reviews product quality and aims to ensure comparability with Aldi, but the findings suggest that consumers may not be receiving equivalent value. Aldi's sales have surged, helping it become the UK's fourth largest supermarket, while competitors like Tesco also report rising profits amid ongoing price pressures.
