He and his wife, Barbara, started their journey in the antiques business in 1965 when they sought to furnish their New York apartment. Over the years, they built a distinguished gallery that became a leading dealer of art from the Louis Comfort Tiffany studio and placed significant pieces in major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mr. Macklowe retired in 2019 but left a lasting legacy in the art collecting community.
