NI energy: Will Northern Ireland get new electricity link from Scotland?

The GB energy regulator, Ofgem, is reviewing the LirlC project, a proposed electricity interconnector between Scotland and Northern Ireland capable of delivering 700MW of capacity. However, Ofgem has initially rejected the project, believing it may lead to increased energy costs for GB consumers while providing little benefit for Northern Ireland. Transmission Investment, the project's developer, contests this conclusion and argues the project will enhance energy security and deliver economic benefits. The regulatory environment remains complicated due to post-Brexit energy regulations.
