Why a Judge Forced Google to Open Up Android

A federal judge ruled that Google must allow rival app stores on its Android platform for three years. This decision comes from a legal battle initiated by Epic Games, which accused Google of anti-competitive practices by limiting competition in the app distribution space. As a result, developers can now create their own app stores and use their own billing systems, countering the existing fee structures that require payments through Google Play. Google plans to appeal this ruling.
