This sentiment contrasts with the popularity of currently trending shows and movies that heavily feature romantic and sexual themes. The study indicates a discrepancy between what young people say they want and what they actually watch. Adolescents are also frustrated with being influenced by social media figures in their viewing choices. The researchers aim to provide better insights to filmmakers about youth preferences.
