Ford has announced a temporary pause in the production of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck from mid-November to early January due to sluggish consumer demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Despite a reported 45% increase in overall U.S. EV sales this year, sales of the F-150 Lightning have not met expectations, representing only 3.6% of all F-Series pickup sales. Ford's strategy is shifting towards hybrid vehicles, as the EV division has reportedly faced heavy financial losses, expected to be around $5 billion this year. The company hopes to better align production with consumer demand to improve profitability.
