Ford to pause production of F-150 Lightning pickup

Published On Oct 31, 2024, 3:41 PM

Ford has announced a temporary pause in the production of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck from mid-November to early January due to sluggish consumer demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Despite a reported 45% increase in overall U.S. EV sales this year, sales of the F-150 Lightning have not met expectations, representing only 3.6% of all F-Series pickup sales. Ford's strategy is shifting towards hybrid vehicles, as the EV division has reportedly faced heavy financial losses, expected to be around $5 billion this year. The company hopes to better align production with consumer demand to improve profitability.

Stock Forecasts

The pause in production is indicative of the challenges Ford is facing in the EV market, particularly with the F-150 Lightning. A decrease in production can lead to lower sales expectations and market sentiment against Ford's EV strategy. While the pause is meant to address the mismatch between supply and demand, it may negatively impact investor confidence in Ford's ability to succeed in the competitive EV market.
