'Baby milk prices punish those who don't breastfeed'

The price of baby formula in the UK has significantly increased by 18% to 36% in the past two years due to a ban on advertising and discount promotions aimed at supporting breastfeeding. Parents report feeling punished for not being able to breastfeed, as they bear the financial burden of high formula prices. With three firms, Danone and Nestle controlling over 90% of the market, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is calling for a review of the ban on price promotions. Some parents suggest that government intervention could help reduce costs, but experts warn that introducing cheaper NHS-branded formula might compromise product quality.
