The UK government is set to reform the leasehold system in England and Wales, transitioning to a commonhold structure where homeowners own their properties outright. The plan includes removing restrictions on leaseholders extending leases and taking control of management in mixed-use buildings, as well as addressing unreasonable service charges. Campaigners express concern that reforms may come too late for current leaseholders suffering under unfair conditions. With around five million leasehold properties affected, the urgency for effective solutions is highlighted.
