The UK government has introduced the "Get Britain Working" initiative aimed at reducing unemployment and inactivity by investing £240 million to reform job centres and enhance mental health services. The Prime Minister aims to increase the employment rate from 75% to 80%, equating to around two million additional jobs. While providing training and apprenticeship opportunities for young people, the government acknowledges obstacles like high economic inactivity caused by long-term sickness, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. Critics argue that tax increases and unclear sanctions on benefits could hinder job growth. Overall, the initiative is framed as essential for boosting the economy and improving living standards, despite pushback on some proposed measures.
