Loyalty cards offer genuine savings, says watchdog
Published On Nov 27, 2024, 3:11 AM
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has conducted a review of loyalty card promotions from major supermarkets like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Co-op, and Waitrose. They found that loyalty cards do provide legitimate savings, with discounts averaging between 17% to 25%. However, shoppers should still compare prices as loyalty discounts are not always the cheapest option. Despite the findings that most loyalty promotions offer genuine savings, a significant portion of consumers (40%) remain skeptical about the authenticity of these discounts.

The findings from the CMA might boost consumer confidence in loyalty programs, potentially increasing spending in supermarkets that offer these programs. This could positively impact stocks linked to these chains.
