Water bills in England and Wales will increase by an average of £86 a year starting in April due to the need for water companies to address issues like sewage leaks and aging infrastructure. Ofwat projects that average bills will rise by 36% by 2030. Southern Water will see the highest increase at 53%, while Wessex and Northumbrian Water will have the smallest increase at 21%. Despite the necessity for these increases, public scrutiny over environmental and financial practices in the water industry is growing.
