More Starbucks Store Workers Will Join Strike for Final Day

Baristas at over 300 Starbucks locations began a five-day strike, primarily affecting stores in major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, and Chicago. The strike stems from unresolved labor practice charges and unsatisfactory wage negotiations, as union representatives argue that Starbucks has not addressed issues related to retaliatory firings and wage increases adequately. This strike coincides with one of Starbucks' busiest sales periods, potentially impacting sales significantly for the company.

The ongoing strike indicates increased operational disruptions for Starbucks, which could harm sales during this critical holiday season. If the strike causes significant business interruptions, it could negatively impact the company's stock performance in the short term.

(Reuters) -A strike at Starbucks' U.S. stores will expand to over 300 stores on Tuesday, with more than 5,000 workers expected to walk off the job, before the five-day work stoppage ends later on Christmas Eve, the workers' union said. Starbucks Workers United, representing employees at 525 stores nationwide, said more than 60 U.S. stores across 12 major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Seattle, were shut on Monday. Talks between Starbucks and the union had hit an impasse with unresolved issues over wages, staffing and schedules, leading to the strike.

The planned walkout in Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle comes after talks between the company and the workers’ union failed to produce an agreement on raises.

It follows calls from the Workers United union for higher pay and better conditions for Starbucks baristas.
