BT scraps EV charging point scheme having only installed one

BT Group has abandoned its initiative to convert street cabinets into electric vehicle (EV) charging points after completing just one of its targeted 60,000 conversions. The project, announced in January 2024 to address barriers for EV adoption, faced challenges, leading BT to pivot towards improving Wi-Fi connectivity around existing charging stations instead. While the UK is accelerating the rollout of new EV charging points, concerns remain about the distribution of chargers, specifically their availability in residential areas. The UK government aims for 300,000 charging points by 2030, signaling ongoing investment and interest in the EV sector.
