Amazon picks Darlington for drone deliveries trial
Published On Jan 28, 2025, 1:19 AM
Amazon has chosen Darlington as the first location in the UK for its drone delivery service, with plans to begin operating from its local fulfillment center. The company is still awaiting regulatory clearance from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for its drone operations, which include trials for flights beyond the operator's visual line of sight. Although it has successfully implemented drone delivery in the US, Amazon acknowledges that significant work remains before it can launch the service in the UK. The company plans to engage with the local community to address any concerns about the new technology.
