Second class post deliveries should be reduced, says regulator

Ofcom, the regulator for the UK's postal industry, has proposed reducing the frequency of second class letter deliveries by Royal Mail to every other weekday in response to declining letter volumes. The aim is to adapt to the significant decrease in mail traffic over the last two decades while also trying to improve financial stability for Royal Mail, which has been losing money. The cost of stamps has risen sharply, and the reform could enable the company to save between £250m and £425m. Additionally, Royal Mail is undergoing a transition in ownership to a business controlled by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, with oversight from the UK government.
