Egg prices aren't coming down anytime soon, experts say

Published On Jan 31, 2025, 9:00 AM

Experts predict that egg prices will continue to rise due to ongoing supply shortages primarily caused by outbreaks of avian influenza (bird flu). The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) expects prices to increase by over 20% in 2025, following a 36.8% hike reported in December 2024 compared to the previous year. With more than 136 million birds reportedly affected since 2022, and high mortality rates within flocks leading to supply constraints, grocery shelves will likely experience insufficient egg supplies, keeping prices elevated.
