China's BYD links up with DeepSeek in an AI threat to Tesla

Published On Feb 11, 2025, 1:35 PM

China's BYD has partnered with AI company DeepSeek to develop new autonomous driving technology, posing a potential threat to Tesla in the EV market. BYD's new 'God’s Eye' advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) will be integrated with DeepSeek's AI technology, enhancing its cars with improved self-driving capabilities. This technology rollout may allow BYD to catch up with Tesla in the expanding EV market in China, where it is already close to surpassing Tesla in sales. However, trade tariffs currently limit BYD's competitiveness in the U.S. market.

Negative

Tesla may face increasing competition from BYD as their AI and autonomous capabilities improve, especially within China. Their challenge lies in overcoming regulatory hurdles in both China and the U.S. Any significant advances by BYD could hurt Tesla's market share, particularly if BYD continues to offer competitive pricing.
