Allow baby milk formula loyalty point purchases, CMA says
Published On Feb 14, 2025, 2:57 AM
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed allowing customers to use loyalty points and vouchers to purchase baby milk formula, aiming to improve consumer savings while maintaining restrictions on price promotions to encourage breastfeeding. The CMA highlighted that parents can potentially save around £300 yearly by opting for less expensive baby formula brands, which provide equivalent nutritional value as their pricier counterparts. Furthermore, the regulator recommends standardizing packaging in hospitals to enhance market functioning.

The CMA's recommendations could lead to more cost-effective purchasing options for parents, which may shift consumer preference towards companies that offer loyalty programs. Given the potential for increased demand for baby formula brands accommodating these changes, companies like Abbott Laboratories (ABT) and Reckitt Benckiser Group (RBGLY), known for their baby formula products, might see a positive outlook and boost in sales. However, brands facing pressure from regulatory changes could risk losing market share if they do not adapt accordingly.
