Cancer scans could be revolutionised by nuclear start-up

A Bristol-based startup, Astral Systems, has developed a new method using nuclear fusion to produce radioisotopes locally for cancer scans, aiming to address supply interruptions faced by the UK medical sector. The technology promises to allow for small reactors to be established near hospitals at a much lower cost compared to traditional nuclear fission plants. This innovation comes in light of recent supply crises, highlighting the fragility of existing sources.
