Lindt to cut out US as Canada's chocolate supplier to avoid Trudeau's retaliatory tariffs

Lindt & Sprüngli, the Swiss chocolate maker, will begin sourcing its products for Canada entirely from Europe to avoid the impact of a new 25% tariff imposed by Canada on U.S. imports. Previously, Canada sourced about half of its Lindt supply from the U.S. due to a tariff conflict stemming from retaliatory actions between Canada and the U.S. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's tariffs come in response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods. Lindt's CEO indicated that they have the capacity to exclusively fulfill Canadian demand from Europe, despite the higher transportation costs. The price of chocolate is expected to increase in 2025 due to high cocoa prices, but Lindt's sales have shown resilience to price hikes in the past.
