Can Remote Workers Reverse Brain Drain?

Researchers studied the effectiveness of Tulsa, Oklahoma's initiative to attract remote workers, implemented during the pandemic. The 'Tulsa Remote' program, which offers $10,000 to remote workers who relocate, has drawn around 3,300 participants over five years. The study revealed that those who moved saved about $25,000 annually in housing costs and contributed significantly to the local economy, providing an estimated $14.9 million in income tax and $5.8 million in sales taxes. This program is seen as a successful strategy to counteract the brain drain faced by cities amidst increasing remote work opportunities.

With the growing trend of remote work and successful programs like 'Tulsa Remote', cities that actively promote relocation incentives could see their local economies bolster significantly. This presents opportunities for companies in real estate, technology, and local business services to grow, given the influx of remote workers. Moreover, investments into TBP (Tulsa's Business Profile) might see gains as more companies choose to establish their presence in areas benefiting from such programs.
