Icom, a Japanese manufacturer of two-way radios, has confirmed it stopped producing the IC-V82 walkie-talkie model in 2014 and is investigating its alleged involvement in a deadly incident in Lebanon where counterfeit versions of its radios exploded, killing at least 20 people. Icom has long warned about counterfeits of its products, which are believed to pose safety risks such as explosions or fires. The company claims that the devices implicated in the tragedy did not have official Icom authentication labels. Icom maintains that it sells only to authorized distributors in compliance with export regulations.
