Corruption review finds 'red flags' in more than 130 Covid contracts

Transparency International UK has released a report outlining serious concerns about £15.3 billion worth of contracts awarded by the UK Conservative government during the Covid pandemic. The charity flagged 135 contracts as 'high-risk' due to signs of potential corruption, including links to firms with political connections and contracts awarded without competition. It found that one-third of contracts lacked standard bidding safeguards, which may have led to significant financial losses for the public sector. The charity is urging investigations into these contracts, citing the necessity for accountability and improved transparency in government procurement processes.
