Major lenders reject homes with spray foam insulation

Homeowners in the UK are facing difficulties in selling or remortgaging properties that have spray foam insulation installed, as several major lenders have started rejecting these homes due to concerns regarding the insulation's installation quality. Issues can arise from moisture trapping, which leads to decay in roof timbers. Around 250,000 homes are estimated to have this insulation, many of which were fitted under the Green Homes Grant scheme. The Insulation Manufacturers Association argues that proper installation can make spray foam beneficial, whereas improper installations pose risks. Homeowners are advised to have relevant documentation and consider independent assessments to tackle potential problems.

Stock Forecasts

The increased scrutiny over properties with spray foam insulation may lead to a decrease in home values, particularly in affected regions, which could negatively impact construction and real estate sectors. A potential slowdown in home sales could affect companies tied to these sectors.
