Drax, based in North Yorkshire, will pay a £25 million penalty for inaccuracies in reporting the type of biomass it used, following an investigation by energy watchdog Ofgem. Though there was no evidence of deliberately misreporting or that the biomass was unsustainable, Drax admitted to having weak data governance and controls. The company provides about 5% of the UK's electricity and relies on government subsidies for its biomass operations, which have faced scrutiny from environmental groups.
