Spain has imposed a record €179 million fine on five budget airlines, including Ryanair and EasyJet, for engaging in "abusive practices" like charging extra fees for hand luggage and seat selection. Ryanair received the largest fine of €108 million, followed by EasyJet, which was fined €29 million. Spanish authorities found that these airlines lacked transparency in their pricing, which hindered consumers' ability to make informed decisions. Despite the fines, which have been upheld by the ministry after dismissing appeals from the airlines, company executives have vowed to challenge the decision in court.
