Shivaun and Adam Raff launched their price comparison site, Foundem, in 2006, only to be penalized by Google shortly after, leading to a massive drop in their site's traffic. They spent 15 years battling Google in court over anti-competitive practices that favored its own services over competitors. In 2017, the European Commission fined Google €2.4 billion for these practices, a verdict confirmed by the European Court of Justice this year. Meanwhile, the Raffs have filed for damages against Google but ultimately had to shut down Foundem in 2016 due to the prolonged litigation. They believe Google's practices remain anti-competitive, and new investigations continue under the Digital Markets Act.
