Netflix raises subscription prices in the UK
Published On Feb 7, 2025, 5:13 AM
Netflix has raised its subscription prices in the UK, following price increases in the US and other countries. The Standard subscription without ads will now cost £12.99, up £2 from before. Netflix claims this price hike will allow for continued investment in quality programming and added value for subscribers. Analysts suggest that while price increases are expected in the streaming industry, there is a point where consumer frustration may rise if pricing becomes too steep. Netflix recently reported record subscriber growth, significantly surpassing expectations in late 2024, largely due to popular content and an expanded sports offering.

The recent price increase could contribute to higher revenues for Netflix, especially if the company's subscriber growth continues to outperform expectations. However, there is a potential risk of subscriber churn if prices surpass perceived value. Given the record subscriber growth and profitable performance in recent quarters, this trend may be sustainable in the near term.
