Restaurants are being forced to up their prices as ongoing outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) -- or bird flu -- continues to limit supplies.

The restaurant chain, which serves breakfast all day, said it was adding the temporary 50-cent surcharge because the bird flu has caused a shortage in the egg supply.

A Los Angeles restaurant that was once a staple for vegans closed its doors after 14 years in business, the business announced on social media.

Wendy’s plans to close 140 U.S. restaurants before the end of this year on top of the 100 it said it would close in May. Wendy’s said it plans to open between 250 and 300 restaurants this year. Wendy’s President and CEO Kirk Tanner said the restaurants that are closing are underperforming compared to others.
